Allison Alexander is the Children’s Librarian in Aspen, Colorado. She has spent the last 16 years working in a variety of settings related to early childhood education and is passionate about improving long term outcomes for children and their families.
Her early career was spent directing classroom based literacy research projects through The Ohio State University. From there she went on to become the Early Childhood Initiatives Director at a cradle-to-career public-private non-profit organization and spent her time there connecting city and local governments, large corporations and other agencies to create more comprehensive systems to support low income children and their families.
In addition to her work in education, Allison is an entrepreneur who has built 3 businesses over the past 10 years while raising her daughter. Balancing career, business and motherhood has given her a unique perspective on the difficulty in “trying to have it all” in a world that is rapidly changing and yet simultaneously holding on to outdated gendered norms. She works as a mindset coach for women who are seeking to grow in their careers and balance their home lives. This work has demonstrated that holistic support is needed to improve the lives of women, which will in turn improve the lives of children.
She is interested in engaging more with women and organizations focused on women and families, to help navigate the gendered norms that affect the income opportunities for women and their experience in the workforce. She hopes to explore opportunities to work with more women to cultivate agency to advocate for themselves politically and in their lives, workplaces and in the entrepreneurial space.
Allison holds a Bachelor of Arts in both Women’s Studies and Political Science as well as a Master of Library and Information Science degree and is member of the Buell Early Childhood Leadership Program. She is also a certified fitness and Pilates instructor and holds certifications in life and behavior change coaching.
