Liz Berube currently serves as the Program Manager and Advisor for the Friends School Teacher Preparation Program in Boulder, Colorado. In this role, Liz works with early childhood and elementary candidates who are working toward their Colorado teaching license through a rigorous and formative year-long residency-based alternative teacher preparation program. As an advisor, Liz provides one-on-one coaching to teacher candidates, guiding them through reflection, goal setting, and progress monitoring. Liz is also an adjunct instructor with the University of Colorado Denver and teaches a graduate-level course for teacher candidates called Teaching as a Profession that is entirely based around critical reflection and guiding teachers in building a reflective practice and philosophy of education and learning.
Liz has developed and continues to refine a strong and comprehensive ECE program for teacher candidates in alignment with the Colorado Department of Education requirements that invites meaningful discourse, includes diverse voices and perspectives, and instills strong images of children, families and caregivers, early childhood professionals, and the ECE profession itself. Through intentional efforts and partnerships, Liz aims to support improved equity practices within the teacher preparation program and the preparation of a more socially just teacher workforce.
Liz has a Bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College in Speech Language Pathology & Audiology, a Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado Denver in partnership with the Boulder Journey School’s Teacher Education Program, and is a current Fellow in Cohort 14 of the Buell Early Childhood Leadership Program . Liz has worked in the ECE field since 2010, primarily in independent, non-profit early childhood centers and schools. She has held a variety of roles including: lead teacher, assistant teacher, program coordinator, child health liaison, mentor teacher, graduate teaching assistant, and finally teacher preparation program manager, advisor, and adjunct instructor.
In addition to her work in the ECE field, Liz is also a singer-songwriter who is active in the Boulder music scene as both a performer and appreciator of live, local music . Since 2018 Liz has volunteered with Front Range Nesting Bald Eagle Studies, collecting data on nesting Bald Eagles in the Boulder Front Range area, that is then utilized in habitat conservation efforts.
