Theresa Clements has worked in the field of early childhood education for over 25 years, serving the field in a variety of positions including work with child care resource and referral, teaching, coaching and administration. No matter the position she holds, she is always striving to build a strong foundation through positive relationships and collaboration. Theresa is currently in her eighth year as the Early Childhood Education Director for Boulder Valley School District where she helps lead early childhood education in the district and also serves as the school administrator for Mapleton Early Childhood Center. Prior to working in Boulder, Theresa worked in the Thompson School District for 17 years where she held positions as a kindergarten teacher, early childhood special education teacher, education coordinator and spent her last 7 years as the early childhood principal/administrator overseeing the district early childhood program.
Theresa is always looking at things from different angles, listening to others, seeking input, and pushing for understanding. Her colleagues tease her about her never-ending questions. Theresa sees questions as a pathway to deeper understanding. She believes having an open mind and an open heart helps us to truly hear what others are saying and that staying curious creates the right conditions for learning and growing.
Theresa has recently put into practice the importance of taking care of herself so that she can be there for others. She believes that when we work together to promote the health and wellness of staff that we can create environments that foster curiosity, joy, and wholeness - a sense of belonging for staff, students, and families.
Theresa has served on numerous state early childhood committees and is currently a member of the Colorado EC Professional Credential Appeals/Evaluation Committee. In March of 2014 she was awarded the Thompson School District Principal of the Year Award by the Thompson Education Foundation.
