Sarah Romack spent the first 11 years of her career as a preschool teacher for a Head Start program until she had the opportunity to participate in an internship in the Child Welfare Department at her local county department of human services while getting her Bachelor’s of Science in Human Development and Family Studies at Colorado State University. Shortly after she began her internship, she was hired as the Core Services Worker, where she provided support to social workers and to the families with open cases by supervising visitation and helping them learn important life skills to work towards regaining custody of their children. She didn’t stay in this position for long, realizing that she wanted to work in prevention much more than intervention.
After less than a year with the department, she was hired as the Lead Home Visitor and Manager of Roots Home Visiting Program where she realized the power of community and working with families in the context of trusting relationships. It was during this time that she also joined the local early childhood council. They gave her many opportunities to expand her knowledge and experience by supporting her in becoming a Circle of Security Parenting facilitator and a master trainer for Foundations for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health. Sarah was one of the first professionals in her county to receive her endorsement in Infant Mental Health. More importantly, she was able to serve the families and professionals in her community outside of her role as a home visitor by providing training that would have been difficult for them to attain otherwise in a small, rural community. It was through her involvement with the council that she learned the importance of creating and supporting early childhood systems that promote healthy outcomes for children and families.
After 4 years of working for Roots Home Visiting Program, Sarah decided it was time for another change. In July of 2021, Sarah was hired as the Coordinator for Chaffee County Early Childhood Council and is excited to bring her love for her community and the desire to see Chaffee County’s children and families thrive to her new role. She is also a part of Cohort 14 of the Buell Early Childhood Leadership Fellowship Program. Sarah lives in Buena Vista, Colorado with her husband, two sons, and two dogs.
